Amy Lu is a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft AI R&D Center, Taiwan. She runs Visual Document Intelligence (VDI) Taipei team under AI and Cloud Platform, in charge of design and developing of document understanding and optical character recognition (OCR) services in Azure Cognitive Services.

Prior to that, Amy was an engineering manager in IC3 (Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud), based in Microsoft Redmond, USA. She led video pipeline team to deliver industry leading real-time video streaming solutions for Microsoft Teams, Skype, Skype for Business and Lync. She is one of the main contributors in Microsoft’s Real Time Media Stack, actively involved in real-time protocol, architecture, product development, and industry relationship in hardware acceleration.

Amy has over 30 US patents issued and granted. She is a recipient of Microsoft Gold Star Award in 2011, Skyper Award in 2013 and Microsoft Achievement Award in 2020. Amy received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master in the department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan University.

Amy is an advocate of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, sponsor of Microsoft’s D&I committee and advisor to various woman's groups in Microsoft.
